Drug Testing (Non-DOT/DOT)

Precede Occupational Health Services offers Non-DOT/DOT Drug Laboratory Testing and collection services 24/7/365 days a year at sites throughout North America. Government issued photo ID is required for individuals being tested at Precede follows strict DOT collection guidelines. All Non-DOT Drug Test CCF (Chain of Custody Forms) are received by Kevin Balaneski (MRO-A) and processed according to Precede confidentially policies. Once the confirmation is received from the laboratory, the MRO-A either reports on the confirmed negative results or it is forwarded to one of POHS MRO for positive verification. POHS MRO provides our MRO-A with a written report that is kept on file for 5 years.

POHS has 1 Medical Review Officer (MRO) and 1 Medical Review Officer Assistant (MRO-A) on staff to reduce drug testing results turnaround time.

Drug Screen (Urine – POCT 7 panel & POCT 12 panel)

This screen is a rapid, one step screening test for the qualitative detection of multiple drugs and drug metabolites in human urine.

POCT 7 Panel - This drug screen offers immediate results in detecting the presence of 7 standard drugs of abuse including Cocanie (COC), Marijuana (THC), Methamphetamine (mAMP), Opiates (OPI 2000), Amphetamine (AMP), Phencyclidine (PCP), and Ecstasy (MDMA). This test is the standard test we offer with all our Pre- Employment Drug Testing.

POCT 12 Panel  - This drug screen offers immediate results in detecting the presence of 12 standard drugs of abuse including Cocanie (COC), Marijuana (THC), Methamphetamine (mAMP), Opiates (OPI 2000), Amphetamine (AMP), Phencyclidine (PCP),  Ecstasy (MDMA), Oxycodone (OXY), Propxyphene (PPX), Benzodiazepines (BZO), Methadone (MTD), and Barbiturates (BAR).

Confirmation Testing for Positive Drug Screen

Any result we receive that is in a Non-Negative is sent directly to our Lab for further clarification. Precede OHS only utilizes the services of Maxxam Analytics for all lab based urine testing. These results are generally available within a 2 – 5 business day turn around.

Adulterant Tests

Adulteration is the tampering of a urine specimen with the intention of altering the test results. The use of adulterants can cause false negative results in drug tests by either interfering with the screening test and/ or destroying the drugs present in the urine. Dilution may also be employed in an attempt to produce false negative drug test results.

All facilities used with Precede OHS are fully compliant with SAMHSA standards. This is the recognized level of acceptance for all locations and gives our clients the level of satisfaction they deserve.

BREATH ALCOHOL TEST (NON-DOT/DOT)

Precede Occupational Health Services offers Evidential Breath Alcohol Testing.  All breath alcohol tests are completed by trained and certified breath alcohol technicians following 49 CFR Part 40 Final Rule.  Precede uses Evidential Breath Alcohol Devices which are DOT compliant. Results are immediate.

Post Accident

  • POHS would comply with your companies current protocol
  • Breath Alcohol tests are completed with J4 Alert Evidential Breathalyzers.
  • Drug Testing will be administered within 32 hours following accident/incident, or as soon practicable.
  • Alcohol tests will be performed up to eight hours after accident/incident or as soon as practicable.

Reasonable Cause

  • Reasonable Cause will include a DP5 Lab Based Screen, unless otherwise indicated by DER.

Pre-Access

  • Express Drug Screen test would be used. If non-negative, second sample sent to Lab (DP5 Lab Screening) for confirmation.

Compliance with Legislation/Regulations/Collective Agreements

  • POHS will ensure compliance to all Legislation/Regulations and Collective Agreements by utilizing DOT documentation, as per USA DOT part 40 CFR.

Return to Duty / Follow-up:

  • To be determined by company DER.

Key Activities:

  1. All testing at POHS is conducted by our friendly, professional staff, in a professional, relaxed manner conducive to mutual respect and open communication between each party. Additionally, in some of our test, our staff actually uses the test time to help educate candidates re:  drug and alcohol usage in a non-judgmental, informative manner.
  1. To handle distant requirements, POHS has an “in-place” TPA network, assessable to client needs on an immediate “as-needed” basis. When pre-qualifying these locations, POHS stipulates which equipment must be on site to perform tests, to ensure accuracy and legislative compliancy, as per our corporate model.
    • POHS has an Alberta based, on-site task force of mobile trailer units specialized to respond to Post Accident, Reasonable Cause, Site-access, and Drug & Alcohol screening/testing, as required. These units are out-fitted with Industry leading equipment such as: J4Alert, Breath Alcohol devices which are 100% government compliant. All results will stand up in a court of law to meet your legal requirements. should this step be necessary in the future.
    • In all situations:  facility, TPA network, and on-site task force units, ALL collectors must have current Collectors certification in place.
  2. POHS currently employs security measures and has appropriate documentation in place to ensure compliance with privacy legislation including policies, procedures, consents, etc. Our Occupational Health Director, Bonnie Krauss, in coordination with:

Alberta Human Rights, Privacy Commission,  DATISA standards, USA DOT Part 40 CFR Compliance and Emform, ensures that all consents, procedures and POHS Corporate Headquarters remain current at all times.

  1. POHS has established its own internal orientation for any new Collector. A checklist and collection procedures outline our training protocol
    • Credentials: Through careful pre-qualifying hiring procedures, PHOS ensures all current collectors have undergone background checks, so they are bondable and credible as per reference checks. Each Collector must have a track record of honesty and reliability, as well.
    • POHS is a DATISA member:  DATISA supply standards and procedures, to which all our Collectors must comply.
    • On-site monitored tests are followed by a demonstration/exam to ensure competency, with certification to follow.
    • Follow-up would include educational material via e-mail documentation, and mandatory participation in at least one of POHS’s Designated Employer Representative Supervisory Course.
    • Privacy is maintained by uniquely positioning sound barriers in our testing rooms, thus providing complete confidentiality at all times.
  2. POHS is unique in that our company-wide procedure is to calibrate our breath alcohol machine daily and to then document data of calibration.
  • On any confirmation testing above .02, candidate given a 15-minute waiting period. During this time, machine is re-calibrated prior to testing a second time.

All Drug and Alcohol Testing completed within our seven office locations are reported to the companies (D.E.R.) Designate Employer Representative verbally within a 30-minute time-frame. Any testing completed outside of our current office locations are reported to the company D.E.R. within a 30 min to 1-hour time-frame.

Precede has three available options for clients to receive their results.

  1. Phone call from Precede OHS collector with test results;
  2.  Phone call from Precede OHS collector with test results and email confirmation to company D.E.R.’s secure email address
  3. Phone call from Precede OHS collector with test results, Electronic notification from Precede to company D.E.R.’s email that their results are posted on secure website for their review. (username and password are required) COMING SOON!

Precede OHS Reporting Procedure:

Negative/Non Negative Drug and Alcohol exams – Day Time hours

Precede OHS will verbally report all Negative 7 Panel Drug screens and Breath Alcohol test results immediately (within 30 mins) to your companies D.E.R. as per our Reporting Protocol. If company D.E.R. is unavailable, Precede will make a second call within 15 mins and if the call is not received, a call with be made to alternate D.E.R. After-hours results are not inputted onto the  company website until the following morning, so verbal confirmation is required.

Evidential Breath Alcohol Devices

Breath alcohol testing is the testing of alcohol levels within your system and will be conducted with DOT approved testing devices. A confirmation test will be conducted, after a 15 minute wait time, for all positive screening tests. The confirmation test will be conducted by using an evidential breath testing device and will be the final result reported to the employer.
