Standard First Aid / CPR

This two day course contains all components of Emergency First aid, dealing with bone and joint injuries, eye injuries, burns, medical conditions, heat and cold emergencies as well as includes CPR.  The Standard First Aid Course includes adult (8+) resuscitation procedures and involves theory as well as practical (hands on) exercises.

Upon completion of the course, the student will receive a certificate that is valid for 3 years.

H2S Alive

This one-day course is intended for all workers in the petroleum industry who could be exposed to hydrogen sulphide (H2S).

The course covers the physical properties and health hazards of H2S, how to protect oneself and basic rescue techniques. Each student is required to operate self-contained breathing apparatus, a detector tube device, and perform rescue breathing, rescue lift and drag exercises. An industry standard certificate valid for three years is issued upon successful completion of a written examination and demonstration of the required skills.

Ground Disturbance Level 2 – Global

Level II is a 6.5-hour program with the first two hours encompassing Level I. Level II is designed for any party that is supervising a ground disturbance, independently performing a ground disturbance, or issuing and receiving ground disturbance permits. The program ensures that Level II personnel are familiar with, and fully understand, all the regulations and variances involved when a ground disturbance takes place. Level II is the standardized program recognized by industry regulators. The prerequisite for this course is the successful completion of Level I. Participants learn how to clarify sources when searching for underground facilities, provide notification to the facility owner and gain an understanding of the necessary approvals/crossing agreements and regulations necessary. They learn to create a plot plan/site drawing, gain an understanding of line locating and learn about types of exposure. Participants will also learn how to do a back-fill inspection. Emergency response plans and what to do in case an underground facility is contacted are also covered.

Detection and Control of Flammable Substances

This one-day course is designed for personnel working with or near flammable substances in the oil and gas industry. The course includes an introduction to flammable substances, principles of flammable gas/vapour detection, care and preparation of combustible gas monitors, interpreting combustible gas readings and control methods.

A variety of instructional techniques are used, including lectures, demonstrations, class discussion, group exercises and hands-on practice. Upon successful completion of the prescribed practical skills and written examination, students receive a certificate of completion.

WHIMIS

This course covers the basics of Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS), providing workers with general knowledge and skills to work safely around hazardous materials. It covers worker education, workplace labelling and material safety data sheets (MSDS).

Transportation of Dangerous Goods (TDG)

This course is intended for individuals who are involved in the transportation and handling of dangerous goods associated with oil and gas industry operations. It is ideal for updating personnel with previous Transportation of Dangerous Goods (TDG) training or as an introductory session for new employees.

Topics include TDG legislation, classification, safety marks, documentation, safe handling, incident reporting and emergency response. A certificate, valid for three years, is issued to each candidate upon successful completion of a written examination.

Confined Space Entry / Rescue

The theory portion of the course deals with the OH&S Regulations as they relate to Confined Space, Recognizing and Defining confined spaces, Hazard Identification, Basics of  Staying Alive, Isolation and Lock Out / Tag Out, the importance of Atmosphere Monitoring and Breathing Apparatus as it applies to confined space and determining risks, the requirements prior to entering confined spaces and rescue procedures.

Confined Space Preplanning and Entry ends here.  If students are required to take the rescue portion the outline is below.

The rescue portion of the course is the practical at the end of the theory.  It will give students an opportunity to use the different rescue techniques such as: harnesses, tripods, serty man system and breathing apparatus (SCBA, SABA).  The students will also go through a simulated rescue using the simulator.

Upon completion of the course students will receive a certificate that is valid for three years.
