Ergonomic Assessments

News Picture Temporary

Description:

Ergonomics deals with the interaction of technological work situations involving the human being. The basic human sciences involved are anatomy, physiology and psychology.  These sciences are applied by the ergonomist towards two main objectives; the most productive use of human capabilities, and the maintenance of human health and well-being. In a phrase, the job must fit the person in all respects, and the work situation should not compromise human capabilities and limitations. By assessing each specific job task and workstation, employers can help to reduce the probability of musculoskeletal injuries at that workstation. Repetitive and forceful movements, vibration, temperature extremes and awkward postures that arise from improper work methods and improper designed workstations are just a few of the components of our ergonomic assessments.

Components:

The assessments are completed by an Occupational Health Nurse with two service delivery options:

  • Complete a brief presentation or in-service to staff on specific ergonomic issues (i.e. Repetitive strain injuries, back care and lifting principles) followed by an individual assessment of various workstations and recommendations for changes.
  • Complete individual assessment of various workstations with recommendations for changes and education.
